Maria W. Faust Sonnet Contest – DEADLINE 6/1/2018
Jun 1 @ 12:00 am

Dear State President/NFSPS State Society,

As sponsor and Director of the GRSF/Maria W. Faust Sonnet Contest, for the past several years I have made it a point to contact all State Presidents for whom an email address is available through the NFSPS.

Our contest, based in Winona, MN, in cooperation with our well-known Great River Shakespeare Festival, has grown wonderfully across the United States, as well as internationally, and we have received quality sonnet submissions. I am a member of the Minnesota Society, and would be pleased if you are able to publicize the event among your members.

Submissions are now open for the 2018 Contest, with entries accepted until June 1.

All submission guidelines are available at sonnetcontest.org

Jun 8 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join us on Friday, June 8 at 7pm, for an artist reception celebrating the work of Mother Foucault’s painter-in-residence, Brooke Budy, who set up drop cloth, easel, and canvas at various spots in the shop over the course of the past year to create over forty painted views of the books, shelves, plants, and people that make up Mother Foucault’s.

In addition to the reception and exhibit, a cadre of local poets will read short works inspired by the paintings, the shop, or the shopkeeper himself:

Joanna Rose
Donna Prinzmetal
Andrea Hollander
Suzanne Sigafoos

Readers will also share the work of two additional poets who were at Mother Foucault’s and wrote about the paintings but who aren’t able to attend: Maggie Chula and Penelope Scambly Schott.

Jul 19 all-day

This evening will be a celebration of the book “1ra Antologia de la Poesia Oregoniana” by the Instituto de Cultura Oregoniana. This book emerges from the First Contest of Oregonian Poetry in Spanish. Along with the winning works, a careful selection of the work of the most representative Hispanic poets in Oregon is presented. “Our Hispanic essence and our surrounding reality are anchored to the fact that we are Spanish speakers in an Anglo-Saxon world. We are Spanish speakers of diverse origins and with unique cultural nuances united by our mother tongue: Spanish. We live a thriving and fascinating reality… We can say that there is in Oregon a poetic vein in Spanish language that cries for being heard.”
