Write Around Portland Free Community Reading @ The Rosewood Initiative

Join us to celebrate the release of our new anthology, Awake in Waves, featuring the talented writers from our fall workshops in schools, assisted living facilities, affordable housing buildings and other agencies. Few Portland events include so many diverse voices!

The reading is free, ADA-accessible and everyone is welcome. Books will be available for purchase.

An Evening of Poetry at Rain Spark Gallery @ Rain Spark Gallery

Rain Spark is a coop gallery with 34 artists which includes Geraldine Foote and her Peace Leaves. She will read from her new chapbook, “Mouth Toward Sky”, and will be joined by Dianne Stepp and Mike Langtry. Reception begins at 5pm, reading at 6PM.

Salem Poetry Project Featuring Sherri Levine @ IKE Box

Sherri Levine lives in Portland, Oregon. Her work has been published in The Timberline Review, WillawawJournal, Verseweavers, and The Sun Magazine. She won First Prize (Poet’s Choice) in the Oregon Poetry Association’s Contest (2017). Sherri served as Poetry Editor for VoiceCatcher Magazine. Her debut chapbook,In These Voices, has recently been published by The Poetry Box.

Salem Poetry Project Featuring Speaking Peace Poets @ IKE Box

Salem Poetry Project Featuring Diane Corson @ IKE Box

Salem Poetry Project Featuring V. Falcón Vázquez @ IKE Box

V. Falcón Vázquez was born in León, Guanajuato, México. She emigrated to the United States at the age of seven. She started writing short stories at the age of twelve and discovered the love for poetry two years later. In her artistic work, Falcón Vázquez, has worked in community plays such as Solo, Una Voz (One Voice) and The Vagina Monologues in Spanish. She participates in various art projects involving radio, television, music and art installations in the Mid-Willamette Valley and Portland area. She has published her first poetry book in Spanish titled “Trazos de mí”(Traces of Me).

Salem Poetry Project Featuring Hudson Schweirkert @ IKE Box

Hudson Schweikert has lived in a number of places but most of his life has been rural. Schweikert went from the backwoods of the deep south to sitting on a houseboat with Alan Watts. It’s been a great life but most of it was spent in field and forest. Schweikert has been a farmer most of his life. He doesn’t think of himself as a poet and doesn’t understand the rules of poetry. He just scribbles down some things about his life as they occur to him, Schweikert has always loved words.

Salem Poetry Project Featuring John Van Dreal @ IKE Box

A third generation Van Dreal artist, John began creative endeavors such as painting and writing at age 7. He earned his formal education in fine art and educational psychology, maintaining careers in both fields while writing in his spare time. John has been a resident of Salem for 27 years where he lives with his wife, dog and one cats. In addition to his work as a poet and artist, he is a published author in the topic of youth violence and threat assessment and currently works for Salem-Keizer School District as the Director of Safety and Risk Management Services.
