Salem Poetry Project Featuring Clemens Stark and Robert Jones @ IKE Box

Robert Hunter Jones spent three years as a logger in the Oregon Coast Range and two years working the swing shift in a sawmill in his home town of Lakeside, Oregon. His poetry has appeared in Alaska Quarterly Review, American Poetry Review, Cumberland Poetry Review, and as well as his own collections Winter Garden, which won the 2014 Gerald Cable Book Award (Silverfish Review Press) and The Clever Man’s Forest (Traprock Books, 2011). Since 1990 he has taught Literature and Theory of Knowledge at American International School of Vienna, in Vienna, Austria, where he lives with his wife and two children. Clemens Starck, Oregon poet and carpenter, lives in the foothills of the Coast Range, outside of Dallas. He is the author of six books of poetry, including the award-winning Journeyman’s Wages (1995) and the most recent Old Dogs, New Tricks (2016). His collected poems, Cathedrals & Parking Lots, will be published in November 2018.

Salem Poetry Project Featuring Joe Wilkins @ IKE Box

Joe Wilkins is the author of a memoir, The Mountain and the Fathers, and three collections of poetry, including When We Were Birds, winner of the 2017 Oregon Book Award in Poetry. His debut novel, Fall Back Down When I Die, is forthcoming from Little, Brown in early 2019. He lives with his family in western Oregon, where he directs the creative writing program at Linfield College.

Salem Poetry Project Featuring Nitza Hernández-López @ IKE Box

Nitza Hernández-López was born in Puerto Rico and is a retired professor at the University of Puerto Rico. Her art works include acrylic painting, photography, and poetry. Lopez’ has been exhibited at events and art galleries in Salem and Independence,OR. In December She won the third prize in the Poetry Contest of the Institute of Oregonian Culture (ICO) and several of her poems have been published in the 1A Antologia de Poesia Oregoniana. Her poems and art pieces reflect her social concerns, multicultural identity and her connection with her origins.

Animal behaviorist/writer Rosemary Douglas Lombard enjoyed roles as biomedical librarian, naturalist, and university teacher, but cherishes decades exploring turtles’ cognitive potential. She won firsts in nonfiction and poetry and published in Bay Nature and Verseweavers, among others. Writings include Turtles All the Way (Finishing Line Press) and WIP Diode’s Experiment.

Milwaukie First Friday Poetry Reading and Open Mic.
Come and share poetry! The Milwaukie Poetry Series of the Ledding Library of Milwaukie and St. John the Evangelist are delighted to continue the First Friday poetry readings on Friday, September 7 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. This reading and open mic will take place in the meeting room at St. John the Evangelist Church, 2036 SE Jefferson St, Milwaukie, OR 97222.
The readers will be some of our community leaders featuring Greg Chaimov, Clackamas Community College Board of Education, Angel Falconer, Milwaukie City Councilor, Sonya Fischer, Clackamas County Commissioner and Wilda Parks, Milwaukie City Councilor. They will read their own work or favorite poems for approximately 40 minutes.
An Open Mic session will follow for all who wish to read their own work or some of their favorite poems. To get on the open mic list in advance or for information about the Milwaukie Poetry Series readings and other events, please contact Tom Hogan at 503.819.8367 or tomhogan2@comcast.net.
There will be a sign-up sheet at the event for those wishing to read during the open mic portion of the evening. There will be poetry books available and light refreshments served. Please join us for a wonderful evening of poetry.
