CELEBRATE AN ICONIC OREGON LIBRARY
In 1842 the first Oregon City Library opened. For 175 years, a library has been the hub of community life in Oregon City. For one hundred and seventy five years!
The newly expanded Oregon City Library is a testament to this long history: combining the modern with the historical, the new structure added to the classic Oregon City Carnegie Library gives the library 21,000 square feet of space to serve patrons.
Let’s celebrate this community icon and the role of public libraries in our lives!
On Sunday, July 30th, Cindy Williams Gutierrez and I will give a free writing workshop at the Oregon City Library. We’ll ask participants to generate new writing (poems or prose) about their experiences with libraries, with treasured books, with the magic process of reading.
After the afternoon workshop, we’ll have a light dinner together, and then give a program that will feature participants reading from what they created in the workshop. The public will be invited to the reading.
THE LIBRARIES LIGHTING OUR LIVES
a generative workshop
given by Paulann Petersen and Cindy Williams Gutierrez
Oregon City Library, 606 John Adams Street, Oregon City 97045
1 to 5 pm: Workshop
5 to 6:30 pm: Dinner together
6:30 pm: Reading (open to the public)
Each workshop participant is asked to
1) bring a sack dinner (the library has a large refrigerator to hold these during the afternoon),
2) bring a notebook or journal, preferably a large one (not diary size), because participants will write copiously, and that’s not easy with a small journal or notebook, and
3) encourage family and friends to attend the 6:30 reading.
Please register for the workshop by calling the library at 503-657-8269 ext. 1017.
