Protest poetry has deep roots in the United States. There is a rich tradition of poems about slavery, the Vietnam War, discrimination, and not surprisingly new works being created now in the Trump era. Local poets Penina Ava Taesali and Marilyn Johnston will read poems published by established poets and their own poetry on the theme of resistance. The open mic afterward is open for you to share your own protest poems and/or protest songs and of course your general poems.
Find us in the back room. Featured reader begins at 7:00 and the open mic will directly follow. Our hosts, The Barrel & Keg, feature a wide variety of beverages and the food pod in the back has a rotating menu of options for dinner!
