The Studio Series: Poetry Reading and Open Mic will feature Kristin Berger and Kristin Roedell on May 14 at Stonehenge Studios, 3508 SW Corbett Avenue, Portland 97239 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Free and open to the public, the Studio Series is held monthly on second Sundays. Kristin Berger is the author of the poetry collection How Light Reaches Us (Aldrich Press, 2016), and a poetry chapbook, For the Willing (Finishing Line Press, 2008), and co-edited VoiceCatcher 6: Portland/Vancouver Area Women Writers and Artists (2011). Her long prose-poem, Changing Woman & Changing Man: A High Desert Myth, was a finalist for the 2016 Newfound Prose Prize. Kristin is the recipient of writer residencies from Playa at Summer Lake, Oregon, and from OSU’s Spring Creek Project. She lives in Portland, Oregon, where she hosts a reading series at the Lents Farmer’s Market.
Kristin Roedell graduated from Whitman College (B.A. English 1984) and the University of Washington Law School (J.D. 1987). She practiced law in Washington for over a decade, and is now retired. Her poetry has appeared in over sixty journals and anthologies, including The Journal of the American Medical Association, Switched on Gutenberg, Ginosko, CHEST, and Crab Creek Review. She is the author of Girls with Gardenias (2012, Flutter Press) and Downriver (2015 Aldrich Press), She has been twice nominated for Best of the Web and once for the Pushcart Prize. She was the 2013 winner of NISA’s 11th Annual Brainstorm Poetry Contest and a finalist in the 2013 Crab Creek Review Poetry Contest. Her full length manuscript Down River was a finalist in the Quercus Review Press poetry prize. She lives in Winlock, Washington with her husband and daughter.
