WHO: Write Around Portland runs community-building creative writing workshops at hospitals, schools, homeless youth shelters, senior centers, low-income housing buildings, prisons, treatment facilities and social service agencies.
THE BOOK: Write Around Portland releases its 53rd anthology— Know These Mountains / Conocer estas montañas—of community writing by adult and youth participants from our fall 2017 workshops held throughout the Portland metro area. The anthology includes introductions by Matt Blair, writer, software programmer and Write Around Portland board member, and Amanda Gonser, Write Around Portland volunteer facilitator and a tech non-profit professional.
THE READINGS: Write Around Portland invites the public to attend one or both of our free community readings featuring powerful work written by participants in our fall 2017 writing workshops. Readers will include long-term HIV survivors; middle school students; young adults in a job training program; adults living with a mental health diagnosis; members of low-income housing and assisted living communities and many others.
These readings are funded in part by generous support from Oregon Cultural Trust, Work for Art, Beaverton Arts Program and CareOregon.
WHERE: Taborspace, 5441 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR 97215 on the #15 TriMet Bus Line
WHEN: Wednesday, December 13th, 6:30–8:00pm
Admission to both readings is FREE, but donations of any amount are accepted to support the work of Write Around Portland. We will also be collecting donations of new journals for writers in our spring 2018 workshops. ADA-accessible.
