AMONG OTHERS TO VIE FOR PRIZES
IN OSPA POETRY CONTEST
Portland -- The Oregon State Poetry Association (OSPA) has announced its Spring 2010 Poetry Contest offering $700 in prizes in six categories and publication in the group's respected annual anthology, Verseweavers, it was announced by Marie Buckley, OSPA president.
One contest category is for poems about frogs and/or toads. Other categories are Poet's Choice, Free Verse, Traditional Verse, and Members Only. There is also a New Poets category for poets who have never won a cash prize for their poetry in any contest.
Prizes range from $100 for the first place winner in Poet's Choice to $50 for first in other categories, $30 and $20 for second and third prizes. Prize checks and certificates will be announced and awarded at OSPA's Spring Conference, April 16-17, 2010 in Eugene OR. Honorable mentions will be awarded in all categories.
Judges are chosen from among established poets, poetry publishers and poetry teachers from colleges and universities throughout the U.S.
Entries must be postmarked on or before March 1, 2010 to be eligible for the contest. OSPA members pay a $5 flat rate entry fee no matter how many poems they submit. Nonmembers pay $4 for each poem entered.
Poets interested in entering poems can get a list of rules from the OSPA Web site, www.oregonpoets.org, or by writing to Karen Clausel, OSPA Contest Chair, 655 Goodpasture Island Rd., #167, Eugene OR 97401 enclosing a stamped, self-addressed return envelope.
OSPA is a not-for-profit association whose mission is to being together and nurture the widest possible community of Oregon poets; to help Oregon poets young and old develop their talents and skills; to stimulate, at the grass roots level. a statewide appreciation for poetry; and to raise public awareness of Oregon Poets, past and present.
