MARY’S PEAK

MARY’S PEAK

Marys Peak Poets sponsored two workshops by Oregon Poet Laureate Peter Sears based on William Stafford’s poem “Ask Me”. One workshop was held at the Philomath Historical Museum and the other at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library. The workshops were coordinated by Linda Gelbrich and Sandy Lizut.  Be Davison Herrera created a William Stafford Display at the library. She gave workshops and readings on both coasts in November and December.

Marys Peak Poets give readings, attend poetry events, publish and take poetry classes to promote poetry in our area. Several Marys Peak Poets will be judges as well as sponsors of the Spring Youth Poetry Contest in conjunction with the Corvallis Arts Center.

Marys Peak Unit News

Marys Peak Poets meet the last Sunday of the month for critiquing.  We do plan events supported by individuals attending.  We average 8-12 poets.  We meet at Linda Smith’s from 7-9.  Everyone is welcome.

In September members helped judge the Fall Festival Youth Contest and read at the open mic reading of young and older poets.  In October Be Davison Herrera worked with other organizations to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Van Buren Bridge with an open mic.

Several Corvallis poets attended the fall OPA conference in Forest Grove.
