SUMMARY:Write Around Portland – “Moon Leaps” Book Launch and Reading
DESCRIPTION:Write Around Portland will host a free public reading and book launch on December 14, 2022, to celebrate the release of our 59th anthology, Moon Leaps. The event will feature work by new and emerging local writers who are often underrepresented in contemporary literature, including people experiencing poverty, homelessness, disability, and chronic illness. The program starts at 6:30 PM and will be held at First United Methodist Church in downtown Portland. All are welcome!\nFull details below:\nWHO: Write Around Portland runs a free creative writing and publishing program for people in our community with the least access to the arts. Since 1999, we’ve hosted hundreds of no-cost writing workshops in hospitals, shelters, prisons, senior centers, treatment facilities, and affordable housing properties, using writing as a tool to build community, improve mental health, and amplify underheard voices. We’ve organized more than 250 community readings for our writers to share their work with the public and published nearly 60 anthologies of their writing, ensuring their voices reach beyond the workshop to engage readers everywhere. \nWHAT: Write Around Portland invites the public to attend a free community reading and book release on December 14, 2022, at First United Methodist Church. The reading will feature powerful work written by participants from Write Around Portland’s fall 2022 writing workshops, including adults living with disabilities and chronic illness, burn and trauma survivors, youth experiencing homelessness, and members of low-income housing and assisted living communities. Readers will share work from Write Around Portland’s 59th anthology, Moon Leaps, which will be available for purchase at the event for $12. Masks are encouraged and available. \nWHEN: Wednesday December 14th, 2022, 6:30-8:00 PM. Doors open at 6:00 PM. \nWHERE: First United Methodist Church, 1838 SW Jefferson St, Portland, OR 97201 (located on the Goose Hollow MAX stop). Venue is ADA accessible and welcoming of all races, ages, abilities, classes, gender identities, and sexual orientations. Please contact us at 503-796-9224 or info@writearound.org with any additional accommodation requests. \nHOW MUCH: Free. Donations gratefully accepted. We invite attendees to RSVP at writearound.org/fall-reading. \nFor more information about Write Around Portland, please visit us at writearound.org.\n
