SUMMARY:Write Around Portland – “Through a Kaleidoscope” Book Launch & Community Reading
DESCRIPTION:Write Around Portland will hold a book launch and community reading at 6:30 PM on May 18, 2023, to celebrate the release of our newest anthology, Through a Kaleidoscope. The program will feature a powerful lineup of prose and poetry by local writers, and will be held at First United Methodist Church in Goose Hollow. Admission is free and open to the public.\nThrough a Kaleidoscope is Write Around Portland’s 60th anthology of new and emerging writers, and introduces readers to voices often unheard of in contemporary literature, including Portlanders experiencing poverty, homelessness, disability, and chronic illness. This vibrant and moving volume has an introduction written by Oregon Book Award winner Omar El Akkad.\nAbout Write Around Portland: Write Around Portland runs a free creative writing and publishing program for people in our community with the least access to the arts. Since 1999, we’ve hosted hundreds of no-cost writing workshops in hospitals, shelters, prisons, senior centers, treatment facilities, and affordable housing properties, using writing as a tool to build community, improve mental health, and amplify underheard voices. We’ve organized more than 250 community readings and published 60 anthologies of our participants’ writing, ensuring their voices reach beyond the workshop to engage readers everywhere.\n
