SUMMARY:Salem Poetry Project Featuring Michael Strelow
DESCRIPTION:Michael Strelow is a retired professor (Willamette University) of English and creative writing. He has had two Fulbright scholarships (to Madrid, Spain and to China), has taught in Galway, Ireland. Strelow lives and writes in Salem, Oregon.\nMichael Strelow’s first novel, The Greening of Ben Brown (2005) was a finalist for the Ken Kesey Novel Prize (Hawthorne Books). His second novel was, Henry: A Novel of Beer and Love in the West (2014). His third and fourth novels, Some Assembly Required (2017, Arthur C. Clarke Award nominated) and The Moby-Dick Blues (2018) were published by John Hunt Books, Roundfire imprint. Strelow’s three MG (middle grade) chapter books are: The Princess Gardener, The Alyssa Chronicles, Jake’s Book. He has published poetry, short stories and creative non-fiction in many literary and commercial magazines: e.g. Orchid Magazine, Oregon Quarterly, Sou’wester, Cutbank, Northwest Review, Kansas Quarterly, Mid-west Poetry Review, Poetry Midwest, Bellingham Review, Willow Spring, and others.\nThe Salem Poetry Project continues at the Bush Barn Annex, 600 Mission St SE, Salem. Parking for the Bush Barn and Bush House is located off of High Street and the Annex entrance is just to the left of the main entrance. Each week will present a featured reader followed by the Infamous Open Mic: 3 poems or five minutes whichever is first. Featured reader begins at 7:00 and the open mic will directly follow.
