SUMMARY:Salem Poetry Project Featuring a Celebration of RS Stewart
DESCRIPTION:Earlier this year we lost a beloved figure in Salem’s poetry community. R.S. (Ron) Stewart grew up in West Salem and Oregon City. He graduated from Willamette University in 1967. He received his Master’s degree in Creative Writing and English from the University of Arizona in Tucson. Stewart spent much of his career working for the Talking Book and Braille Services and the Oregon State Library. After retirement in 2007, he volunteered in the Chemeketa Community College Writing Center as a tutor for several years. Stewart wrote and published under the pen name R. S. Stewart, dedicating all of his spare time to his love for writing poetry and playwriting. His poems were widely published in poetry journals throughout the US. This evening friends and colleagues will share poems and memories. The open mic will be an opportunity for attendees to do the same.\nThe Salem Poetry Project continues at the Bush Barn Annex, 600 Mission St SE, Salem. Parking for the Bush Barn and Bush House is located off of High Street and the Annex entrance is just to the left of the main entrance. Each week will present a featured reader followed by the Infamous Open Mic: 3 poems or five minutes whichever is first. Featured reader begins at 7:00 and the open mic will directly follow. For more information contact Marc Janssen at mrcjanssen@msn.com ( mailto:mrcjanssen@msn.com ).\n
