SUMMARY:The Studio Series Poetry Reading & Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Dale Champlin and David Mehler\nDale Champlin is an Oregon poet with an MFA in fine art. Many of her poems have appeared in The Opiate, Timberline Review, Cirque, VoiceCatcher, Pif, CatheXis, Triggerfish Critical Review, Voices International, and other journals and anthologies. She is the editor of /pãn| dé | mïk / 2020: An Anthology of Pandemic Poems from the Oregon Poetry Association. Dale hosts Head for the Hills, a poetry appreciation group and open mic, featuring readings by prominent poets. Her honors include a Pushcart nomination, the Banta Award from OPA, and a first place in the OPA Adult contest. Her poetry collections are: The Barbie Diaries, Callie Comes of Age, Isadora, and Andromina: A Stranger in America\n David Mehler studied literature at University of California, Santa Barbara, and currently lives in Newberg, where he and his wife relocated from Denver in 1997 to assume ownership of Oregon’s oldest independent coffeehouse which they ran for 21 years. During that time he hosted a local writer’s group. He is the editor of the literary journal, Triggerfish Critical Review.  His chapbook, God Truck Nature appeared in the chapbook anthology, Burning Gorgeous: Seven 21st Century Poets, edited by Pamela O’Shaughnessy. He acted as an administrator at the popular online global forum/workshop, The Critical Poet. More recently he served on the board of the Oregon Poetry Association. His first full-length collection of poetry, Roadworthy, was published by Aubade Publishing near the end of 2020. He now works as a driver at a landfill near Portland, and his manuscript of mostly prose poems pertaining to this work, Bad is Bent Good, is slated for publication by Aubade in June of 2024.\nThe Open Mic is open to all audience members. Participants can sign up before the start of the reading or during the break. Tables are available, so people who arrive early can enjoy a light supper (i.e., a sandwich, salad or burger) while waiting for the reading to begin. If we run out of table space, folding chairs are available. A mic will enhance the readings. There is plenty of unrestricted parking on the streets around the Café.\nQuestions?
