SUMMARY:Image and Word: Write Poetry Inspired by Local Art
DESCRIPTION:Make this Poetry Month really special with community arts walks and poetry writing with former poet laureate, Erica Goss!\nUse local visual art as inspiration for writing poems.\nAfter this class with Erica Goss, you’ll never have the dreaded writer’s block again! You’ll know the secret to jumpstarting your writer brain: The Greeks had a word for it: “ekphrasis.” Many well-known poets, from Robert Lowell to Diane Seuss, have written beautiful, thought-provoking art-inspired poems. And no matter what, if you’re feeling stuck in your writing life, there will always be more art to look at for inspiration!\nIn this four-week generative poetry class, you will learn how to enhance your creativity from a selection of art including paintings, photographs and sculpture.\nIn addition, we will take several walking field trips to view public art in downtown Eugene. Contemplating the deeper meanings in works of art, will give you plenty of ideas for new poems.\nList of goals :\n-You’ll gain more awareness of art freely available for viewing.\n-You’ll engage in a study of ekphrasis as a sub-genre of poetry.\n-You’ll do lots of close reading of ekphrastic poems.\n-You’ll experiment with writing ekphrastic poems.\nPoets ages 16 and up are welcome.\nSeveral of Erica’s students have had poems they wrote in her class published!\nJoin us for this unique writing experience.\nClasses will feature in-class and out of class writing and readings, sharing work, and commenting on others’ writing.\nRegister: https://wordcrafters.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/wordcrafters/eventRegistration.jsp?event=1939& ( https://wordcrafters.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/wordcrafters/eventRegistration.jsp?event=1939& )\nDate: Wednesdays in April\nApril 3, April 10, April 17, April 24 2024\nTime: 5:30-7:00 PM\nLocation: Wordcrafters Studio, 436 Charnelton St. Ste. 100, Eugene, OR 97401\nPrice: Pay From the Heart\nWe now offer Pay From Your Heart Pricing\nWe want everyone to have access to our writing programs.
