SUMMARY:Beyond the Ekphrastic Free Poetry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Ekphrastic poetry is very popular right now. In its strictest sense, an ekphrastic poem describes another work of art. But there is so much more poets can do with a painting, photo, sculpture, or drawing.\nIn this workshop, we will read some ekphrastic poems by others and look at the art that inspired them. Mostly, however, we will look at a variety of art pieces and discuss the various ways you can incorporate those pieces into your poetry. We will then have time to write some poems and those who wish to share what they have written may do so.\nThis workshop to open to all, but attendees must register beforehand. Registration link is available on the library website.\nDr. M. Christine Delea is the author of The Skeleton Holding Up the Sky (Main Street Rag Press) and 3 chapbooks. Her poems have been published in nor, Mid-American Review, The Honest Ulsterman, Big City Lit, Spoon River Poetry Review, and many other journals. One of her ekphrastic poems recently won the Ekphrastic Challenge from Wee Sparrow Poetry. She is a former university professor who now volunteers for various organizations in the greater Oregon City and Portland area.\n
