DESCRIPTION:Featuring Sherri Levine and Carolyn Adams\nSherri Levine is a poet, educator, mental health advocate, and squirrel lover living in Portland, OR. Her poem, “Facedown,” won the Lois Cranston Memorial Prize (Calyx) and she won First Prize (Poet’s Choice) in the Oregon Poetry Association Biannual Contest. Her work has been published in Prairie Schooner, Poet Lore, Calyx, Jewish Literary Review, and others. Her full-length poetry collection, Stealing Flowers from the Neighbors,” (Kelsay Press, 2021) was chosen by Alzheimer’s Authors to be in a national book club.  A Joy to See (Just A Lark Books, 2023) is an ekphrastic poetry book of prominent poets writing about her late mother’s artwork. Her newest illustrated poetry book, I Remember Not Sleeping (Fernwood, 2024) is dedicated to people who suffer from mental illness or care for someone who does. She escaped the long harsh winters of upstate New York and has ever since been happily soaking in the Oregon rain.\nCarolyn Adams, originally from Houston, TX has lived in Beaverton, OR since 2017.   While living in Houston she was a finalist for Houston Poet Laureate in 2013.  She received her undergraduate degree in Humanities from the University of Houston in 2016.\nHer art and writing have appeared in Caveat Lector, Bryant Literary Review, and Comstock Review, among others.  She has been nominated multiple times for a Pushcart and Best of the Net.  Her poetry e-chapbook Beautiful Strangers was published in 2006 by Lily Press, and her art e-chapbook, What Do You See?, published in 2007, is available online from the e-zine Right Hand Pointing.  She has also published two chapbooks, An Ocean of Names in 2011, and The Things You’ve Left Behind in 2016.  Her full-length poetry collection Going Out to Gather has been published by Fernwood Press.\nCarolyn has assisted in editing and publishing the literary journals Curbside Review, Ardent, Lily Literary Review, Mad Hatters Review, Mojave River Review and VoiceCatcher.  She currently edits and publishes the Oregon Poetry Calendar, pairing the work of diverse Oregon poets with her own nature photography\nThe Open Mic is open to all audience members. Participants can sign up before the start of the reading or during the break. In the interest of time, Open Mic readers are asked to limit their reading to three minutes.\nView clips of featured poets reading at the Studio Series on Instagram @poet_landia and on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/1281329966139780/ ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/1281329966139780/ )\nThe Ross Island Grocery and Café is a cozy space with capacity for 40 or so people. Tables are available, so people who arrive early can enjoy a light supper (i.e., a sandwich, salad or burger) while waiting for the reading to begin. If we run out of table space, folding chairs are available. A mic will enhance the readings. There is plenty of unrestricted parking on the streets around the Café.\n
