SUMMARY:Salem Poetry Project featuring the Work of Three Ukrainian Poets: Serhiy Zhadan, Lyuba Yakimchuk, and Ostap Slyvynsky
DESCRIPTION:This evening the work of three contemporary poets will be presented, Serhiy Zhadan, Lyuba Yakimchuk, and Ostap Slyvynsky. These were poems written in and around the warzone in Ukraine. Serhiy Zhadan was born in Starobilsk, Luhansk oblast, in 1974. He is a Ukrainian poet, fiction writer, essayist, and translator. He has published over two dozen books. Zhadan lives in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Lyuba Yakimchuk was born in Pervomaisk, Luhansk oblast, in 1985. She is a Ukrainian poet, screenwriter, and journalist. In 2015, Kyiv’s New Time magazine listed Yakimchuk among the one hundred most influential cultural figures in Ukraine. Ostap Slyvynsky was born in Lviv in 1978. He is a poet, translator, essayist, and literary critic. He authored four books of poetry. Slyvynsky teaches Polish literature and literary theory at Ivan Franko National University in Lviv.\nThe Salem Poetry Project continues at the Bush Barn Annex, 600 Mission St SE, Salem. Parking for the Bush Barn and Bush House is located off of High Street and the Annex entrance is just to the left of the main entrance. Each week will present a featured reader followed by the Infamous Open Mic: 3 poems or five minutes whichever is first. Featured reader begins at 7:00 and the open mic will directly follow.
