SUMMARY:Salem Poetry Project featuring Steven Robert Heine read by Marc Janssen
DESCRIPTION:More than forty years ago, an unemployed cannery worker named Steven Robert Heine burst onto the publishing scene in Oregon as one of three Salem cartoonists. From 1978 to 1981 Heine became the first author to appear at the Oregon State Fair, selling his poetry books and meeting thousands of fairgoers. Eventually Heine became the judge of the Oregon State Fair poetry competition from when it began until 2018 and helped to create the Oregon Author’s Table. At twenty-three he founded his own publishing company and published over 14 books. There is no telling how many of Heine’s books are in circulation even now from the around 40 years of book sales he made at the state fair, he may be one of Oregon’s best-selling poets.\nThe Salem Poetry Project continues at the Bush Barn Annex, 600 Mission St SE, Salem. Parking for the Bush Barn and Bush House is located off of High Street and the Annex entrance is just to the left of the main entrance. Each week will present a featured reader followed by the Infamous Open Mic: 3 poems or five minutes whichever is first. Featured reader begins at 7:00 and the open mic will directly follow. For more information contact Marc Janssen at mrcjanssen@msn.com ( mailto:mrcjanssen@msn.com ).\n
