SUMMARY:Poetry Reading First Friday Art Walk Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Marc Janssen, Juniper Moon, and friends like Eleanor Berry\nPoetry Reading: 6:00-7:30 p.m.\nwith Open Mic, bring a poem!\n \nManna\n229 State Street, Salem, Oregon\n(Art Walk Hours: 5:00-8:00 p.m.)\n \nCome and help us celebrate the First Friday Art Walk! For the months of October and November, Juniper’s work will be exhibited at Manna in Salem. The Impermanence of Hope series is a collection of mixed media pieces that include watercolor, machine sewn elements, and book pages. It explores the relationship between hope, creativity, and place.\n \nWe are celebrating with a poetry reading, a room full of art—Juniper’s mixed media series and a pastel collection of her dear friend, Heidi Henrikson-Miner. And— baked goods (to purchase)! If you haven’t been to Manna, their bread and baked goodies are fabulous.\n \nWe hope to see you there!\n \n///\n \nEleanor Berry’s latest poetry collection, Works of Wildfire, won the 2022 Grayson Books Chapbook Award. Another chapbook, Not Just Us, is forthcoming in 2026 from Finishing Line Press. Previous publications include Green November (Traprock Books, 2007), No Constant Hues (Turnstone Books of Oregon, 2015), and Only So Far (Main Street Rag, 2019). A past president of the Oregon Poetry Association and the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, Berry holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and has taught at colleges and universities in Wisconsin and Oregon.\n \nJuniper J. Moon cultivates handwork as an artist, writer, photographer, and letterpress printer. She believes in the power of art, poetry, and handwork to save lives one creative moment at a time. Juniper’s work includes numerous poetry broadsides, letterpress and digitally printed. She works in many mediums including linoleum block carving, pen and ink, water color, collage, and often paper crafts with her sewing machine, Mark. Her work has been exhibited on both coasts. A graduate of the Evergreen State College, she holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the Rainier Writing Workshop at Pacific Lutheran University. She founded Dwell Press in 2010. Maybe his verse can be found scattered around the world in places like Pinyon, Orbis, Pure Slush, Cirque Journal, Two Thirds North and Poetry Salzburg also in his book November Reconsidered and his recent book collaboration A Resurrection of Trees. Janssen coordinates the Salem Poetry Project- a weekly reading, the occasionally occurring Salem Poetry Festival and keeps getting nominated for Oregon Poet Laurate.
