She holds PhDs from the Universidad Complutense and Purdue University, teaches at Portland State University, and writes and speaks on literature, film, cognition, and empathy. Jaén began her poetic career in the 90s in Madrid, where she participated in poetic gatherings, collaborated with visual artists, and performed with several theater troupes. She was a student of the poet Carlos Bousoño and later focused her doctoral research on the relationship between poetry and film. She has served as a judge for several Spanish poetry contests and is currently a board member of the Oregon Poetry Association (OPA).\nApril 30 through June 11 the Salem Poetry Project will be temporarily housed at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel near the Oregon State Capitol, 770 Chemeketa St NE.
