SUMMARY:Salem Poetry Project featuring 100th Birthday of Allan Ginsberg
DESCRIPTION:Allan Ginsberg’s centennial birthday was June 3. He was a visionary American poet and founding father of the Beat Generation. Best known for his epic poem “Howl” (1956), he revolutionized American poetry by combining natural speech rhythms, raw confessional emotion, and bold critiques of post-World War II American materialism and conformity. This evening we will celebrate the great poets work by reading his words.\nThe Salem Poetry Project continues at the Bush Barn Annex, 600 Mission St SE, Salem. Parking for the Bush Barn and Bush House is located off of High Street and the Annex entrance is just to the left of the main entrance. Each week will present a featured reader followed by the Infamous Open Mic: 3 poems or five minutes whichever is first. Featured reader begins at 7:00 and the open mic will directly follow.
