Sarah has a B.A. in Literary Studies from Beloit College. After taking a long pause from writing post-college, she came back to it as a manager of Hillsdale Farmers Market in Portland, Oregon, writing a popular weekly newsletter column about seasonal eating and gardening. In 2014, she was selected as one of six participants for a Hedgebrook Master Class on food writing. She has since published food and gardening articles in Organic Life Magazine, Backpacker Magazine Online, and as a staff writer for the Nature’s Path blog. She now writes a sporadic column on the same subjects for the Observer newspaper. When not cooking, gardening, writing, or rambling in the woods, she represents Art Center East through written communications and otherwise as their Community Outreach Coordinator. Sarah will read a selection of prose, poetry, and non-fiction works-in-progress. Her writing explores themes of relationship, loss, and memory through the lenses of food and the natural world.
