Portland: Michael Dickman and Paulann Petersen

November 12, 2019 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm America/Los Angeles Timezone
Portland State University, Smith 238

Paulann writes:

Michael Dickman is a Portland poet, but we in Portland see far too little of him. And our chances to hear him read his work are rare.

Well, one of those rare chances is coming up on November 12th:

A poetry reading by Michael Dickman and me

Tuesday, November 12th, 2 pm

Portland State University, Smith 238

Michael will be reading from his newest full-length collection, Days & Days, published by Knopf, a book of—as Marie Howe has said—“spare, clear, untranslatable poems—spoken as if out of the original silence.”

I’ll be reading from my latest book, One Small Sun, from Salmon Poetry of Ireland, described by Booklist as “a veritable master class in the interweaving of metaphor and memory.”

A little more about Michael:

His work has appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, The American Poetry Review, Field, and Tin House. He currently teaches at Princeton University, where he’s a Lecturer in Creative Writing. He was the subject (with his twin brother, the poet Matthew Dickman) of a New Yorker profile written by Rebecca Mead. He and Matthew had roles as the pre-cog twins in Steven Spielberg’s film “Minority Report.” (What other world-class poets do we know who’ve been in a Steven Spielberg movie?)

Please join us in downtown Portland to hear this native son and stellar poet!
