Nitza M. Hernández López has been living in Oregon since 2012, when she retired as a professor from the University of Puerto Rico. She earned a doctorate in Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Nitza is involved with photography, mixed media, acrylic painting, poetry, meditation and yoga. She occasionally does voluntary work at Capital Community Television. Some of her artwork has been shown at exhibits and art galleries in Salem and Independence, Oregon. “My poetry, as well as my artwork, reflect my social concerns, my latino and multicultural identity, and the connection I feel with Puerto Rico, as well as my ancestors and my cosmic origin.”
