Salem Poetry Project Featuring Rachel Wolf

A Jersey girl at heart, Rachel Wolf’s first medium of expression was writing poetry in junior high. As a child prodigy, she began studying classical piano at the age of six. Marrying words with music was the natural evolution for her creative talents. Since then, Rachel has become an accomplished screenwriter and writing coach, director, producer, composer, published poet and author, ghost writer, and book editor, enjoying a career in the entertainment industry on both coasts. She worked for Kurt Vonnegut in Manhattan, gleaning lessons about writing while earning her English degree in the evenings. In 1987, she headed West and quickly landed a job at Disney Studios. Over the next 25 years, she worked for celebrities, studios, and companies in TV and film development and production. As a cabaret singer, she was lucky enough to share the stage with many talented musicians.

After moving to Salem with her dog Kona in 2013, a patron’s support made it possible for Rachel to complete the book, music, and lyrics for “POE the musical.” In 2018, she directed POE’s world premiere staged readings at Chemeketa College.

On April 13, 2023 Rachel Wolf explores The Music of Poetry: When Poems Become Lyrics. She will share her process of crafting lyrics that were first birthed as poems, hungry to be sung.
