The Studio Series Poetry Reading & Open Mic

Featuring Armin Tolentino and Genevieve DeGuzman

Armin Tolentino is the author of the poetry collection We Meant to Bring It Home Alive (Alternating Current Press) and the co-author of the children’s book, Mythwakers: The Manananggal (Hope Well Books). He served as poet laureate for Clark County, WA from 2021-2023. He earned an MFA at Rutgers University-Newark and is a former Oregon Literary Arts Fellow, Carolyn Moore House Writer in Residency, and Atticus Hotel Artist in Residency. He is a phenomenal clapper, a passable ukulele player, and a bumbling, but enthusiastic, fisherman. More info at www.armintolentino.com.

Genevieve DeGuzman (she/her) is a poet and writer with work in The Adroit, Nimrod, phoebe, Poetry Northwest, RHINO, and other publications. A Tin House alum and Alice James Award finalist, she has received the Oregon Literary Fellowship, the StoryBoard Fellowship from StoryStudio Chicago, as well as fellowships and support from AWP, Oregon Arts Commission, the Oregon Regional Arts & Culture Council, Poets & Writers, and Vermont Studio Center. Genevieve lives in NE Portland with her thrash metal musician partner and their unimpressed cat. Karaoke at the End of the World (now out from JackLeg Press) is her first full-length collection. Find her online at genevievedeguzman.carbonmade.com.

The Open Mic is open to all audience members. Participants can sign up before the start of the reading or during the break. In the interest of time, Open Mic readers are asked to limit their reading to three minutes.

The Ross Island Grocery and Café is a cozy space with capacity for 40 or so people. Tables are available, so people who arrive early can enjoy a light supper (i.e., a sandwich, salad or burger) while waiting for the reading to begin. If we run out of table space, folding chairs are available. A mic will enhance the readings. There is plenty of unrestricted parking on the streets around the Café.
