The Studio Series Poetry Reading & Open Mic

Featuring Vivienne Popperl and Suzy Harris  Vivienne Popperl’s poems have appeared in Timberline Review, Clackamas Literary Review, About Place Journal, One Art, Heathentide Orphans, Willawaw Journal, and other publications.  She received both second place and an honorable mention in the 2021 Kay Snow awards poetry category by Willamette Writers and second place in the Oregon Poetry Association’s Spring 2022 contest “Members Only” category as well as several awards from the Oregon Poetry Association. She recently participated in a multi-media production featuring senior, “seasoned” poets called “What We Hold and Leave Behind.” Her first collection, A Nest in the Heart, was published by The Poetry Box in April 2022. A transplant from the Southern Hemisphere, she now revels in the moody fog and mist of the Pacific Northwest. Suzy Harris is the author of the chapbook Listening in the Dark about hearing loss and learning to hear again with cochlear implants, which placed in the 2022 Poetry Box Chapbook Contest judged by James Crews. Her work has most recently appeared in Sheila-Na-Gig, Triggerfish Critical Review, and Clackamas Literary Review. Several of her poems have been recognized by the Oregon Poetry Association and she served as poetry editor of Timberline Review in 2022. Suzy was born and raised in Indiana, and lives in the Sunnyside neighborhood in SE Portland, where she and her husband raised their two adult children. The Open Mic is open to all audience members. Participants can sign up before the start of the reading or during the break. In the interest of time, Open Mic readers are asked to limit their reading to three minutes. Tables are available, so people who arrive early can enjoy a light supper (i.e., a sandwich, salad or burger) while waiting for the reading to begin. If we run out of table space, folding chairs are available. A mic will enhance the readings. There is plenty of unrestricted parking on the streets around the Café.
