Hace años escribí estas palabras: “El silencio es nuestra lengua materna.” Ahora me pregunto: “Si esto es cierto, si el silencio es nuestra lengua materna, ¿quién es el padre? El padre tal vez sea la PALABRA, la voz del poeta. Como poeta me veo como un cazador de palabras en busca del sonido divino que brota de los intersticios más recónditos de nuestras almas, la palabra, la pequeña historia, el poema que oculta su afán de pertenecernos a todos.
Me sorprendió gratamente darme cuenta que Oregón alberga una cantera vibrante de cazadores de palabras interesados en escribir poesía espléndida y dispuestos a compartirla con todos nosotros. Pero también me sorprendió saber que hay una plétora de poetas, en Oregón, que escriben en español. OPA, en su sabiduría literaria, me ha comisionado con la ayuda de Priscilla Hunter, para sacar a la luz este floreciente tesoro escondido en Oregón. Es por eso que entrevistaremos y presentaremos, en la página de OPA, a poetas de habla hispana que viven en Oregón. Creemos sinceramente que compartir su poesía nutrirá y enaltecerá nuestro arte poético comunitario.

Years ago I scribbled down these words: “Silence is our mother tongue.” Now I ask myself: “If this is true, if silence is our mother tongue, who is the father? The father perhaps is the WORD, the voice of the poet. As a poet I see myself as a word hunter searching for the divine sound that seeps from the innermost interstices of our souls. The word, the little story, the poem that veils its eagerness to belong to us all.
I have been pleasantly surprised to realize that Oregon hosts a vibrant quarry of word hunters keen on writing splendid poetry and willing to share it with all of us. But I am also amazed to know that there is a plethora of poets writing in Spanish who reside in Oregon.
OPA, in its literary wisdom has commissioned me with assistance from Priscilla Hunter, to mine this hidden thriving treasure in Oregon. Therefore, we will interview and introduce, on the OPA page, Spanish speaking poets living in Oregon. We sincerely believe that sharing their poetry will nurture and enhance our communal poetic craft.
