The OPA Youth Poetry Contest opened on Sunday through May 2nd! Contest co-chairs (and board members) Julia Gaskill and Ty Brack are hoping you will encourage your kids and/or grandkids, other K-12 students, parents, teachers, librarians, and educators… anyone you know who could use or pass along some encouragement to submit poems by young writers in Oregon. The contest is open to all K-12 students who are residents of Oregon (including public, private, magnet, charter, parochial, incarcerated, and home-schooled). No entry fee – one submission per student. Submissions accepted here: https://opa.submittable.com/.
Up to ten winning poems will be selected from each of three judging divisions, each receiving a $50 award and publication in this year’s Cascadia anthology. What’s more, this is an opportunity to cultivate a love of poetry in student writers, and a chance to provide a competitive literary experience for students.
If you donate $50 (or more) between now and May, it will be earmarked for supporting awards to student contest winners: https://oregonpoets.org/donate/
Also, if you’re a member, you might check your OPA profile and make sure your membership is up-to-date: https://oregonpoets.org/member-portal/
Cheers! – David Goodrum, OPA President
