Tilt by Jone Rush MacCulloch

Tilt, a middle grade novel in verse was published in April 2026. It was inspired by a student whose untimely death made a lasting impact on the school’s community.
Ten-year-old Darrah says “Tilt” when her world shifts. Her parents get divorced. She and her bestie argue. Then she meets a new friend, Jackson, hanging upside down in the neighborhood
oak. She starts fifth grade hoping for a positive tilt. Then Jackson dies.
Told through a series of accessible, age-appropriate poems, Tilt explores grief, guilt, and forgiveness. Over the course of a year, Darrah learns how to tilt when unexpected events upend
her world. This novel is a gentle approach to difficult topics and is appropriate for children aged nine through twelve.
